  1. Beginning Wheel Throwing
To begin, I have wanted to take a wheel throwing class since starting my art degree at FSU and I am excited to finally have the opportunity to get good instruction on proper techniques. My goals for this class are simple: to learn as much as I can and to be able to communicate what I have learned to others. I have worked with a throwing wheel before, but had no instruction on how to use it or what ways are better than others for making various objects. That was back in 2003 so it’s been a while since I’ve been seated at the wheel and now that I am back I hope to finally pick up the information that I lacked 6 years ago.
I am a self confessed “art-geek.” I have always known that I wanted to make art for a living and that I would do whatever it took to make that happen. I took every art class that was available to me and am now set on my current career path of Graphic Design. Last semester I was accepted into the BFA in Design program so I have some extra studio classes to take. Up to now, I have taken mostly my required classes, which has been tedious, but I am now enjoying being able to take whatever classes I want within my degree. That is why I am here in this ceramics class. Not only to fulfill my studio requirements, but also because I really enjoyed working with clay in the past and want to make it something will enjoy doing for years to come.
I currently have a very busy schedule, which I don’t mind because I like to be busy. I am married (no kids), work full-time, take classes part-time, and do freelance graphic design work when I have the time. I am planning on wheel throwing to be a new stress reliever for me. I like to be able to put my full concentration into something and let all my other thoughts melt away. If this class can help me achieve my goals and make me less preoccupied with all of my other worries, I would call that a major success.
